COURSING.

A meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Coursing Club wes held on Wednesday, at the Shades, Hereford street. Preaeut—Messrs Chatteris (in the ohair), B. Ccokson, B. E. Deaoon, E. P. Hill, T. Bassett, and W. G. Walker. The ohairman stated the business before the committee waa tbo consideration of the programme of tho club's third fixture of the present season, whioh was fixed for the 9th of August. Mr Ooobson proposed, Mr Bassett atoonded, and it was resolved—" That the events to be contested bo the Canterbury Cup, for an unlimited number of all-aged dogs, at five guineas each, and that a oup of the value of thirty guineas be added for the winner ; also, the Canterbury Puree, for all dogs bsaten in the first round of the Gup, and that a piece of plate of the value of ten Kuineas be added for the winner ; also,, the St. Leger Stakes, for an unlimited number of puppies of both sexes, at five guineas eaoh, with a piooe of plate value fifteen guineas added for the winner." Dae notice of the tryst will be duly advertised. This was all the business. A meeting of shareholders in the Canterbury Plumpton Coursing Ground Company was held on Wednesday at the Shades, Mr B R. Deacon'in the chair. The ohairman stated that the object of the meeting was to receive the report of tho direotors re tha selection of a suitable ground for the purposes of the company. Mr 8. Manning reported that in reBponsa to the advertisement about twelve properties had been offered. The directors had inspected the most likely, and would reoommend the purohase of one whioh was situated within a easy distance of Christohnroh. Mr B. J. Hale proposed, Mr W. G. Judge seconded, and it was unanimously agreed —"That this meeting conours in the recommendation of the direotors." In reply to a question the ohairman said there would be no difficulty in preparing the ground for the coursing season of 1883. After; tho consideration of some routine business, th.e mining terminated.
