A well earned promotion ia the New Zealand Shipping Company’s service ia reported with respect to the present chief officer of the ship Rangliiki, Mr Caniee, “who was ytstorday notified that he had been appointed to the command of the company’s ship Waimea, now at Port Chalmers. Mr Canise’s numerous friends will hear of his advancement with every pleasure, and wish him long life in his now poeition. . Her Majesty’s mails for Pigeon Bay were lyestarday carried by the L.H.B. steam tug Lyttelton. The steamer Titan having been purehased by tho Timarn Harbor Board, is being put in order to proceed there, and tho steamer Akaroa, tho Pigeon Bay packet of the future, is also receiving some alterations before she is placed in commission. The Ringarooma left Sydney on the 21st at 8.3 J a.m., and passed the Heads at 9.5 a.m., and was abreast of the Three Kings on the 25th at 5 a.m. Bte arrived at Russell at 4 p.m. She experienced moderately southeasterly weather through.
