INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting cf the Exhibition Committee of this association took place at their rooms, Hereford street, last evening. Present—Mr J, P, Jameson, president (in the chair), Meters Sheath, A. B. Kirk, Howland, King, Mitchell, Banks, Webb, Moor, Allan, Tombs, Berg, England, Toomer, Reese, and others. Letter* of apology were read from Dr. Von Haast and Mr Espenett. Dr. Von Haast, as chairman, wrote, stating that a number of the gentlemen appointed as a sub-committee to report on the New Zealand exhibits, bad found themselves unable to carry out their duties; a complete report could not be compiled, and ha suggested that the sub-committee, as a whole, be discharged. This was put to the vote, and the subcommittee was discharged accordingly. Mr Howland said that his portion of the work bad been done, and Mr Tombs laid on the table a report of the section entrusted to him.
Several email accounts were passed for payment, after which the treasurer reported a balance in hand of nearly £9. Mr Webb, as treasurer of the ladies’ court sub-committee, brought np a balance-sheet, from which it appeared that their accounts stood in deficit of £9 15s. He thought, under the circumstances, the balance in the hands of the committee might be handed over to the sub-committee, who would then make good whatever small deficiency might remain. After some discussion, on the motion cf Mr Howland, seconded by Mr Berg, it was Berg, it was resolved to make a grant to the sub-committee as suggested by Mr Webb. A meeting of the ordinary committee of the association was then held. The same members were present. Votes of thanks were passed to the members of the Exhibition committee, end especially to Mr J, S. Jameson, secretary, for the efficient manner in which their duties had been carried out.
On the motion of Mr Howland, seconded by Mr England, the Exhibition committee were discharged. A letter was read from Mr Espenett, tendering, on the score cf ill health, his resignation as a member of the committee. The resignation was accepted with regret. The sub committee appointed for the revision of the rules brought up their report. They recommended alterations—in rule 7, so as to make subscriptions payable in advance, and prohibiting any member from voting on the night of his admission. Buie 8 and 9, as to vacancies on committee, was amended, giving the committee power to fill small vacancies, and for any vacancies amounting in number to halt of the whole, the presi dent to be empowered to call special meetings to elect. Eule 18 was sltered, so as to require one month’s notice to be given of any proposed alterations in the rules. The committee approved the report, and ordered it to be presented to the next general meeting. Mr Howland stated that no arrangement had been made by the sub-committee for the engagement of other rooms. Messrs W. B. Mitchell and H. R. Webb were appointed auditors. Mr Banka, as treasurer, stated (hat there was a deficit at the present time of between £3O and £lO. Ha would liko to know what steps would be taken to cover it, Mr King thought plurality of votes might bo introduced, the qualification to be at the rate of 5s per vote. Ho would take a pound’s worth.
Mr Waller said the eommittes had better, before their next general meeting, subscribe among themselves to wipe out the deficit. He was prepared to put bis name down for £2 2s. After discussion the matter was allowed to stand over till the general meeting of the association.
Mr H. B. Kirk was elected on the comniitt e vice Mr Espenett resigned. The Chairman was requested to prepare bj next meeting a draft report to be submitted to the annual meeting. The committee than adjourned.
