The statement that the Government had issued orders for the immediate despatch of an expeditionary force to Egypt is now fully confirmed. Various regiments comprising the Army Corps are leaving their garrisons, and are now moving towards the ports where transports are lying ready to receive them. The embarkation of troops will be proceeded with without delay, and transports will depart as soon as they have received their complements. Consols are unchanged at 99}. The total reserve in the Bank of England in notes and bullion is £12,750,000, being £250,000 below the reserve in the Bask last week. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,980,000 quarters. Adelaide flour, ex store, has fallen to 37s 6d; Adelaide and New Zealand wheat remain at 52s and 50s respectively. Australian tallow has advanced Is per cwt., best beef being quoted at 44s 6d and best mutton at 45s 6d.
The cricket match between the Australians and an Eleven of Yorkshire was resumed at Middlesborough to-day. The home team continued their first innings and were all disposed of for a total of 129. J. Grimshaw was the highest scorer with 90. Garrett bowled splendidly for the Australians. The Yorkshiremen, being 93 runs behind the Australians, followed on, and in their second innings scored 140. The Australians, requiring 48 runs to win the match, then commenced their second innings, and at the conclusion of the day's play had lost one wicket for 3 runs. The Rev. Father Luck, of Ramsgate Colloge, has been appointed to the Roman Catholic Bishopric of Auckland. In the House of Commons to-day the Arrears of Rents in Ireland Bill was again under consideration, and was read a third time and passed.
