A fair amount of business has been noticed in our markets during the past week, but m many instaaoes at quotations in favor of bnyers. The arrivals of the Lutterworth from London, the Avanti from Boston, and the Jasper from Mauritian, have supplemented stocks of many lines ; but still much inconvenience has been experienced by the long detention of the Pampero &nA Rakaia with several seasonable goods, which, if now to hand, would come to a bare market. The inquiry for groceries has been ama.l, and oonfined to supplying actual require.2''" .. Dried fruits have been quitted in Bmall lota, at xw —ants and 7id for eleme xaisua; muscatels ot nno t±u^n r ««e" ■e&rce. and are readily bought at high figures. The demand for salt recently experienced has aow subsided, and what business baa lately even buated has been of a retail character. Teas of fine quility just to hand have been well quitted at satisfactory rates; medium and lower sorts are in plentiful supply, but in little favor. Candles have bad some attention at 8d for Do ISoubaix's and 9d for Price's. Sugars continue easy at .£3O 10s to £32 tot fine to finest whites. Beoent Mauritius advices report "there are ao good sugars in first hands, and the market is ao bora that it will be difficult to fill orders whioh may arrive during the next tbree months ; also that there are no yellow or brewers' crystals." Tobaccos show no alteration, and have a steady but quiet business ; fancy sorts still continue in short supply. Kerosene has bad but small business, recent arrivala have augmented already large stocks, and sales can only, consequently, be effected at low rates. Bottled ale of good " I quality continues In short supply, and 007 ship- . menta to hand are freely quitted at fair figures. Port wine and Bhorry of medium quality have had small sales; other kinds are neglected. ij"™,- I Champagne and claret, whioh previously have been ip request, are now unnoticed. Brandy has had but little attention, except for the cheaper kind* ; recent arrivals have supplied the enquiry for mall contents, Geneva and old Tom, which previously were rather scarce. Fencing wire continues in good demand at previous quotations, and grass seeds have had a large business at improved rates.
