EXHIBITION DONATIONS TO THE MUSEUM.
Some at least of the British exhibitors have determined that their visit to Christchuroh shall not go unrecorded, as far as the exercise on their part of thoughtful generosity is corcerned. Messrs S*v»ge and Dilworth, representing as they do a very large section of the British exhibitors, have, on behalf of their principals, made a very handsome and useful present to our Museum, Some few days ago Dr. Von Haast interviewed Messrs Savage end Dilworth on the "eubjeot, and ■ they telegraphed to their principals at home, the result of whiohj-was a reply that the firms mentioned below would only be too happy to place th ir exhibits at the disposal of Messrs Savage and Dilworth for presentation to the Museum. This kindness is the more to be appreciated, inasmuch at the articles presented are not only of great value but will be highly instructive, rendering our Museum •von more complete than it is at present. Certain';' the thanks of the community are dee to the Uru-s exhibiting for their liberality, and to Messrs Sartge and Dilworth for their thoughlfuluess iu the matter. Tee presentations made include tho following fj-v> ; hif:i : W. W. End E. Johnson and Sons—Wh;t« lead and rolled me'ah West Cumberland Icon and Steel Company, Limited, Workington—Matorials used and products obtained in the manufacture of Bessemer pig iron, Spiegeleisen, steel rails, plates, and steel castings. Steel Company of Scotland, Limited—Steel manufactured by the S e nens* process ; mild steel plates employed for marine, locomotive, and stationary boilers ; steel plates, angles, bulbs, tee bulbs, and bus of all kinds, as supplied to tbe British Admiralty and various Continental Governments, for shipbuilding, &?. ; for suspension and other bridge work a epedtl steel of high tensile strength and elongation is manufactured. The manufacture! exhibited, in addition to tbe various kinds above mentioned, include steel rails of all sections, homo, foreign and eoloninl. from 10 to lOOlbs per yard, steel forcings of all kinds, also steel castings of every description, including pinions, wheels, hydraulic cylinders, propeller blades, &3. Taylor Brothers, Adelaide Works., Sheffield— Saws (patent perforated saws, guide lined and plain circular saws, long end short saws of all descriptions, saw fittings, steel files, patent sheep shears, edge tools, machine irons, rnatchets, &?., as displayed in the handsome trophy in the African octagon. T. VV. Bust acd Co., the magnificent trophy of yarns, wools, kz. This collection includes Fingering wools, for hcEiery and fanoy articles of dress ; fleecy wools, for ladies* work; Alloa yarns, for stout or knickerbooker hosiery; Wyvorn or Saxony worsted, for superiiue hosiery purposes ; mending worsted, upon cards, made specially for the goods manufhctured by the above mentioned yarns; petticoat fingerings, for fancy articles and ladies' underclothing; Berlin fingering, for superior make of the same aitioies ; Berlin, Shetland, and Andalosian wools, for lacks' work, knitting, crochet, embroidery, &s., k. 3 .; worsted and lambs' wool yarns, for weaving hosiery, vc. J. X. Baworih, a le.rge exhibit of sewing cottons of ali kinds, James Paine, the firework exhibit, of which mention hat already been made. Thier, Mayer, and Co., grapo sugar. John Corbett, M.P., Stoke Prior Salt Works—Trophy of silt, and Thos. Higgint. salt for dairy and household 'purposes, bread making, moat curing, &c. _ Buncorn Soap and Alkali Company, Limited, 6,. Water street, Liverpool—Caustic soda, soda crystals, soda ash, sulphite of soda, bleaohing powder, refined rosin. Wiggins, Teape and Co., 10 acd 11, Aldgate, London—lmitation hand made writing, extra strong loan and Bank papers ; extra strong cartridge paper, in reams and reels; fine and superfine hard made papers. T. B. Ford, Snakely Mill,High Wycombe—B'otting paper exhibits. The Maltine Manufacturing Company, Limited, 24 and 25, Hart street, Bloomsbury, London —Maltine food acd pharmaceutical nropiiratious. There i» do doubt that the public will appreciate moat fully the liberality oE the firms mentioned, and alio the kindness of Messrs Savage and Dilirortb, in bringing under theirnotico tho claims of our local Museum, whioh. has been enriched to a very large extent bythi.ii' generosity.
