It appears that a fire was discovered in the house during the afternoon, a spark or something having burned a hole through the carpet. When the inmates retired to rest all appeared safe, but at 1 a.m. they were awakened by the place being in fUmei, and had barely time to esoape with their lives. Norling's board was actually burned off beforo he got out of the cottage. It was insured in the South British for £IOO, and the furciture for £25. TIMARU, July 20.
