THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
[PSEBB ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM."| DUNEDIN, July iS.
luo New Zealand and Australian Lane' Company furnish the following particulars received by the Suez mail as :o the ei’o of their cargo of frozen meat, per Dunedin. The vessel ariived in the London Books on theiila May, and on the 2nd of Jure a jj.it holt the cargo had been sola at an average or nearly per lb. The sheep came out of their bogs as bright as now killed mut'Cn. and were declared by the Smithfioid salesmen to be simply perfection Hud worth 9d pet lb if not frozen. The lambs were greatly sppreoitf'j, fetching 7d to 7jd per lb. The very heavy sheep shipped by Mr Saand attracted mn"h attention, but only realised 5d per lb. One of the sheep turned the scale at 1801 b, and the Londoners could scarcely be brought to believe that such weights could be obtained without artificial {ceding. One hundred sheep were sent every night to Glasgow, and realised rather more than in London, about 6j-d for mutton and 7*,t for lamb. At the same time, the Scotch butchers oimplained of the weights as being too heavy for them. The pigs were considered quite as good as English pige, and averaged 6id per lb. It is (stisfsotory to know that the salesmen declare that there could not be any improvement in the method of slaughtering until ending the oargo Home, and that the greatestrredie is due to those who superintended operations hero and to Captain Whitson,
