ENGLISH FOREIGN. [eKUTEH’S TELEGRAMS.] LONDON, July 17.
The Maori deputation, bearing a petition addressed to the Queen, were to-day granted an interview by Earl Kimberley, and were introduced to hie Lordship by the Right Rev. A. B. Sutter, Bishop of Nelson. Sydney Taiwhanga and Hori Mangihaka explained at ‘length the grievances of the Natives of New Zealand and presented their petition. The Secretary of State for the Colonies stated in reply that ho could only transmit the memorial to the Government of New Zealand and request the opinion of the Colonial Executive as to the allegations made by the petitioners. A portion of tho cargo of frozenmutton ex steamship Orient, was sold by auction to-day, and realised an average of 6£d per lb. In tho House of Commons to-day, the Right Hon. John Bright explained that ho disagreed with his former colleagues on the Government Benches solely with regard to tho policy they had decided upon pursuing in connection with tho Egyptian question.
