. Teastw-IT Extension.—The official open* ing of the Ferry read tram lino to Woolston takes place to-morrow. The residents of that suburb h£.ve determined to celebrate the occasion by a spread in the Oddfellows' Hall, for which some 120 invitations have been issued.
Exhibition Doa Show.—A meeting of the comiriftte of tho late Exhibition Dog Stow was held at the City Hotel last evening, for tha payment of the prizes. The prize of the promoters of tha Exhibition for the beat greyhound, which w&b a handsome silver cup, was handed over to Mr K. P. Hill* tho owner of Daisy, a fine Chnmp6gne Charlie— Piicrtcß pi:p. It was inscribed " Special prise for bent greyhound, Exhibition D~g Show, 1832, awarded to Mr K. P. Hill's Daisy, by Champagne Charlie—Peeress." Sib Julius Vogei..—A movement is on foot to give a reception to Sir Julius Vcgel on his arrival in Chris tchurch, and it is stated that a deputation will.wait on the Mayor today to discuss the nrlSter. Messrs Joubert and Twopeny have intimated their willingnsss to place the Exhibition building at the disposal of any recepticn committee which may be formed for the purpose of giving a banquet to Sir Julius.

Smith with a smart run took it down to the West Ghristohurck goal line, and F. Wilkinson secured a third try, which O. Garrard oonVCrted into a goal. Johnstone and F. Wilkinson also secured tries during that spell. W. Wilkinson then kicked ofx for the Merivale, bus Proaser, with a smart run, soon psssed them, but was well caught by A. Smith, '»ho was playing well back, but Gresharn secured tho ball, and got another try for the Merivale. W. Wilkinson and Garrard also get tries. Scrimshaw then kicked off for the spell, but F. Wilkinson soon secured another touch, which A. Smith converted ii to a goal. AVOHSIDB SICX AND NEEDY SOCIETY. The annual meeting of the society was held yeslsiday at 3 p.m. in the Avonside schoolroom ; the Bev. W. A. Patcoa in the chair. The balmca-sheet for the yestr ended 30th June, 18S2, was submitted, which showed that a sum of £236 5s 2d had been expended. during the past year, and alio a credit balance of £7O 7& 7d. The Kcv. Chairman spoke at length of the good work dona by the society; ur.d the statement of accounts, which bad been duly audited by Mr H. Sister, were -jnanimously received and adopted. A vote of thanks to tha chair terminated the proceedings;. Masonic.—The ceremony of consecration of the C.'own under the Scottish Con* stitutior, will take place this evening in the Oonyers Masonic Hr.ll, Sydenham. Bro. the R-iv. James Hill, acting on behalf of the District Gr.ir.d Lodsje at Dunedin, will perioral tiie ceremony, and inetal the first officers of the Lodje. The President (Mr Buokbam) repr.-ted that, assisted by Mr Ellis, the librarian, La had re-arranged and classified the library books, and also unpacked and placid the new books on the shelves. Mr Fal an proposed, Mr Burn sooonded—"That a vote of thanks be accorded to Mr Bnskham and Mr Ellis far the care and attention they had bestowed upon the libiary, end in i re-arranging the volumes thereof." It was decided—" That in future the rale relating to the removal of the bojis from the librarybe (strictly enforced, and a subscriber must only be allowed to tsko cut one book at a tires." Woodend —Tho usual monthly meeting of the Bard of Hope in connection with the Wesleyan Church was held on July 3rd j the pastor of the church presided. The programme for the evening was a lengthy one, but wai of suoh a diversified nature that the attention of the audience waa retained throughout. The vocal and instrumental put of the entertainment waa carried out most efficiently by Messrs Blakely, Heap, B. W. Blak.ely, Jan., assisted by several ladies from Kais.po . Messrs Rodgers, Qeorge, Avers and Moss man gave readings and recitation". The tiroceads of the entertainment, which amount* d to about £i, go toward the Sabbath. school American organ fund.
