BOARD OF HEALTH.

An ordinary meeting wai held on Friday. Present —Mr \V. Vincent (chairman), Dr. Doyle, and Messrs J. B. Parker, W. H. Hubbard, A. Ashworth, A. Dunbar, S. Manning and Li. Harper. The Sydenham Borough Council had appointed Ors. Brown and Pavitt as delegatee to meet members of the Board re amendments in the Public Health Act, and the Heathoote Hoad Board had appointed Messrs Jones and Attwood. The Secretary Lower Heathoote School Committee drew attention to a nuisance caused by the Ferry road sewer at its junction with the open drain. The Engineer reported that the matter wae being to. Mr A. Birr, of wrote re drain through hia properly being at lower level than street channelling. Referred to Drainage Board, The medical officer reported that a fresh sot had been printed of cards of instructions for distribution at houses from which oases of infectious disease were reported. At next meeting he would report on the outbreak of diphtheria at St. Albans. Meanwhile he advised that both the public and Sunday schools in the district should continue to bo closed j that cards of instructions be distri buted in the district; that the public papers, which had hitherto so ably assisted the Board in its endeavors to improve the public health, should bo solicited to give the rules for preventing the spread of infectious diseases as much publicity an possible, and, as filth aud dampness soomocl to predispose to diphtheria, the systematic inspection of the district should bo continued, with a view to enforcing cleanliness apd improving the drainage. Resolved, on Mr motion—“ That a letter be written to the superintendent of the Sunday-school, requesting that it be closed until the Board thinks it safe to have the school ro-opened.” Accounts amounting to £35 were passed for payment. Mr Parker’s resolution was carried without a dissentient—' " That the following motion be rescinded : * That in the opinion of the Board it is desirable that the powers delegated under the Public Health Act to the Christchurch City Council be revoked.’ ” The chairman will confer with the Mayor re date of conference touching amendments to Health Act.
