LINCOLN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
Tho opening services in the now ohnrch, which had been looked forward to with interest for some time, wore conducted under very favorable circumstances on Sabbath last by Her.. J. Eimclie. The weather was all that could be desired, and tho church, which was full in the morning, was crowded in the evening. Very appropriate sermons were preached by Mr Elcoslie, who dwelt on tho essentials of a prosperous congregation in a living, loving, working Church. In the afternoon there was a good gathering of the young together with some friends, when Bev. A. Blake preached from tho words, “ Behold I make all things new,” and was listened to with great attention. On Tuesday evening tho soiroe was held in tho district schoolroom, and despite some showers, the tables, which were bounteously provided by Mesdames Sharp, Boyd, Smith, and Maepherson, assisted by Misses Munro, Macphcrson, Duncan, and Bobertson, were quite crowded. After tea tho church got gradually filled long before tho time by those who wished to make sure of neats for tho public mooting. At halt-past seven the building was crowded to tho door, and Rev. A. Blake took the chair, accompanied by Bov. S Smalley and A. McOallum. After the opening exorcises and remarks from the chairman, the treasurer was called upon, as one who had borne a largo share of tho burden of committee work, and had been indefatigable in his labors. Mr Rainey’s statement showed that the contract price was £747 12s 63, which had been increased to over £BOO by incidental expenses of advertising, &c., and that the amount of liability unprovided for was a little over £IOO. In addition to the interesting and valuable addresses of Bovs. Smalley and McOallarn, were the forcible remarks of Mr W. Wallace, of Otago, on tomperonce, and Mr Duncan,of Christchurch. These all congratulated tho congregation and their pastor on the commodious and handsome edifice erected for the worship of God, and many kind wishes were expressed for their continued prosperity. Among the proceedings of the evening was tho presentation of a silver watch and Albert chain to Mr D. Dunn, in recognition of his gratuitous services as loader of psalmody in the congregation. Tho presentation was made by Miss Jago and suitably acknowledged. The choir sang several anthems very creditably, and after tho usual votes of thanks, the meeting was closed by Bev, A. MoCallum, ar.d dispersed, all being much pleased with the proceedings.
