The Oust-ouis duties collected at Christ ihurch on Thursday, June 23rd, were as follows: Spirits, £ 31 8s ; tobacco, £l2 17s 6d ; tea, .£39 2s 8.1; goods by weight, ,£32 18s; ad valorem £<s 7a; other duties, £ls 6s Sd. Total, £3u9 19s lOd.
General business remaius in a dull state, any orders neh.g only of a sorting up nature Several vessels now overdue by their non arrival are causing some inconvenience on account of the absence of requirements, and this doubtless contributes inn small way to the prevalent dulneaa. The financial statement has after soma little delay b?ea made public, and it is a source of relief to commercial minds to find there has been no attorn at to niter the present tariff. Bottled ala and stout ef good quality havo been freely quitted at i2s 6d, inferior sorts have found a few buyers at (is. Caudles continue at a low figure, the demand for the season being very alight. De Roubaix’a have sales at Bd. and Price’s at -'id- Dried fruits hava but little alteration ; currants continue easy at 5) 1; El ora a raisins are in small enquiry at 7Ji, while Muscatels command extreme ligates on account of email supply. Kerosano remains unnoticed, and only trifling sales are effected at from Is iOd to 2s 2a, according to t?st, Salt has had more inquiry thanform-rly, and bean freely quitted at an advance on previous quotations. Saltpetre being in rather short supply can only be secured in smalt iota at prices in favor of holders. Sugars continue easy, with hat little business doing ; latest reports from Mauritius describe the proa pacts of tie coming crop as continuing to improve, and that with ordinary seasonable weather something batter than an average yield may reasonably be expected There has bsen but little doing in teas, and that only for actual requirements, os buyers prefer awaiting arrival of “new season’s,” now shortly due. Sales of spirits have been much smaller than formerly, and principally confined to whiskey;, of which Scotch continues in favor, while Irisi, on account of limited supplies, has been in some de nand. Wines of all kinds are neglected. Advices to hand show a considerable advance is required for Krug’s champagne; these, however, do not seem to affect present low quotations. Tobacco has had a quiet business, principally for twists; fancy sorts still continue scarce and dear. Fencing materials have been rather brisk, and some considerable inquiry has lately existed for both plain aud barb wire, which command improved rates. Galvanised iron, thongh offered at a slight margin over cost, has had only but small business.
