BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SYDENHAM. The usual fortnightly meeting of thin Council was held last evening. Present — The Mayor and all the councillors, except Or. White, Loltara were read Erom the Drainage Board, stating that rates had been struck of 1b in the £ for the suburban, and 2J-1 in the £ for the rural portions of the district. From J. L. Biahworth, -denying the truth of certain all.'gaiions made by the inspector of nuisances as to a nuisance said to exist on the premises of the parsonage. From the Crown Lands office, stating that a Crown grant would issue for 873 a 2r 37Ap, the endowment reserve of the borough at Cairnbrae. Mr Bishworth’s letter was ordered to be laid on the table. A petition was read, numerously signed by ratepayers in the neighborhood, asking the Council a in* terest with the railway authorities to procure a foot-gate and path on the east side of the railway crossing at Durham street. The petition was referred to the works committee, who were requested to comply with its request. The report of the works committee was read. It recommended that the correspondence re Endowment reserve be forwarded to Mr White, and that he be asked to endeavor to get the reserve made 1200 acres, as it originally stood. The Drainage Board had been requested to cooperate with the Council in arriving at an estimate of the damage done to the streets by drainage operations, with a view to immediate repairs. The City Council had been requested to bear half the ooeb of pitching crossings of streets over the town belt, for footpaths at Colombo street, Durham street, and Selwyu street. The report was adopted. The finance committee reported the receipts of the past fortnight to have been £3o 11s lid, the expenditure £343 Bj, and on June 19th, the credit balance at the Bank was £656 2s 6i. The report was adopted. On the motion of Cr. Brown, seconded by Or. Langdowu, it was resolved to levy a general borough rate of Is in the £, and a Waimakariri rate of Id in the £, on all rateable property in the borough for the year ending December 3 iot, 1832, and payable on June 20th next. The receipt of certain Parliamentary papers from Mr White and Mr Wright, M.H.B’s., were acknowledged. In reference to the constitution of Harbor Boards, as proposed in the new Act, it was resolved to inform Mr Wright that the Council, on the score of economy, would prefer that the* proposed member for Sydenham on the Lyttelton Harbor Board should bo elected by the Council, and not by poll of the electors. It was resolved to Mr White to move the Government to appoint a public vaccinator for Sydenham, The Council then adjourned.

After the ordinary meeting, a special meeting, according to the Act, was held, when a resolution was adopted to make a new otreet through R. 3. 239, from Colombo street to Addison street, as a continuation of Gordon street, and it was resolved to acquire in the usual manner the land necessary to make the said street* This was all the business.
