Considerable disappointment is felt with Mr Bryce’s Native Reserves Bill, which, while proposing to deal with all Native reserves in the colony, docs nothing to remedy the grievances under which the original lessees from the Native Trust and sub-leasees here at present labor. A meeting of lessees was held yesterday to consider tho matter, and a series of resolutiojjs were passed, for the purpose of being submitted to the public meeting, with the view of getting them incorporated as additions to the Bill, to meet the case of the various classes oi lessees. Under the present Bill there is no provision for compensating tho lessees who improve their property, and as the renewals of the leases are to be auctioned every twentyone years, tho lessees want either to be granted a renewal if it is required or allowed compensation. The original leoseoi and sub-lessees are working together in this matter.

Quite a rush has set into Slatey Creek, which is almost due west of Ahoura ani Blackball, in the Moonlight ranges. About thirty men are on gold, and have settled down for the winter, building good huts. A good track to the locality is much wanted, as all provisions have to bo packed on men’s backs, the last four miles of country being very broken and difficult. Several quartz claims have been recently taken up in the Blackball district.

In the event of this course being found impracticable, a series of sub-clauses is to be introduced into the Bill providing for valuation and compensation to lessees. The Education Board has decided to dispense with the services of Mr Farnio, one of the Normal school teachers, for writing to them reflecting on the new inspector. In the case of the Linden licensing district it is understood that although three Commissioners were elected by the ratepayers, the Governor has power to appoint an entire committee, irrespective of such election in pj?t, by virtue of sub section 7 of section 13 of the Act. The licensing clerk of the district will therefore take no notice of the request made to him by the three gentlemen who now claim to be the committee.
