POLITICAL INTELLIGENCE.

[feom thb correspondent of thb “ press.”l WELLINGTON, June 9. I understand that the question of the proposed new loan will be definitely settled in Cabinet on Saturday; that is to say ai to the amount the Government will propose to borrow, and the manner in which the operation shall be performed, and the mode in which the proceeds shall be allocated. It has been decided, I believe, that the views of the Government shall bs fully disclosed in the financial statement instead of being left for the speech on the Lran Bill. Another point which will be considered at the meeting of the Cabinet, if time permits, is the attitude to be adopted by the Government with respect to the new Standing Orders submitted on Thursday by tha Standing Orders Committee. It is anticipated that the Government will support the adoption of the BU KK G stions put forward, but there is likely to be some stiff opposition. There is still no sign of Sir Arthur Gordon’s famous despatch re the West Coast Native difficulty. The Hon. Mr Mantell has given notice in the Legislative Council of a question on tha subject, and great curiosity is felt. It is understood that it was deemed inadvisable to complicate matters by producing it while the Peace Preservation Bill was going through tha House, and it is now thought possible that it msy be delayed until Sir Arthur has taken his departure. I learn from H.M.S. Miranda that she is under orders to leave on Monday or Tuesday next to convey Sir Arthur Gordon to Fiji, and it is said that his departure will be a final one. Nothing has been yet heard on any reliable authority as to his probable successor.
