In the action the Union Steamship Company of Now Zealand versus the Melbourne Harbor Trust, for damages sustained by tbe steamer Rotorua in October last, when her propeller was stripped and rudder damaged by fouling the anchor chain of the dredge in midstream in the Yarra river, a |nominal verdict was returned to-day, after a protracted trial, for the defendants. Leave was granted, however, to the plaintiffs to apply to a fuirConrc to enter a verdict for £52 10s, the amount of damages sued for. Arrived—Rotorua from the Bluff. SYDNEY, June 9.
Arrived, this morning—Union Company’s steamship Hero from New Zealand.
New Zealand wheat is quoted at 6s 89, and New Zealand oats at 3s lOd ; maize at 5s 7d, and Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces, per ton, at £35. The Union Company’s steamship Arawata, shortly after leaving the wharf last evening, ran into and sank the brig Sea Nymph, 289 tons, of this port. The crew of the brig wero rescued and landed at Port Macquarie, and the Arawata then resumed her voyage. It is stated that at the time of the collision the lights of the Sea Nymph were hidden by a ketch, and could not be seen by those on board the Arawata.
