AUSTRALIAN.
[renter's telegrams.) MELBOURNE, June 9
It is expected that a comet will bo visible in Australia some time during the next few days. The matter of the address to tho Irish people, signed by Messrs Longmore, Duffy, Broaphy, O’Callaghan, and Toobay was again under discussion in the Legislative Assembly last night, when an animated debate took place on tho motion introduced by Mr Francis, expressing disapproval of the address, and accepting the assurance of the signers of their loyalty to the Queen, and avowing the same on behalf of the whole House. After a lengthy discussion, and rejection of an amendment by Mr Berry that an address should be sent to Mr Gladstone, approving of his Irish policy, Mr Francis’ motion was carried by 37 to 24 votes.
