LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The above Council met on Monday night, when there were present Or. Reed (in the chair) and Crs. Stinson, Garforth, Webb, Grubb, Weyburne and Chalmers. The receipts since the preceding meeting were reported to have been £159 Os lOd. Leave of absence was granted to Or. Macdonald. A letter was road from the Harbor Board as to the line of road near Miles and Co.’s old store, and was left with the works committee. Mr P. B. Pasemore’s application to let his reserve to Alexander Bros , he being responsible for the rent, was allowed. A widow|s (Mrs Knowles) rates wore remitted. A petition from ratepayers In Exeter street West was read, requesting that the nuisance caused by slops from adjacent houses be abated, was left with the inspector of nuisances to deal with. W. H. Dailey submitted that he was not under the impression thatjho was obstructing the road with his smith’s shop in Dampior’s Bay, and asked that it be allowed to remain in the meantime. The application was not rejected by the Council. With reference to a letter from Mr H. N. Nalder, the borough solicitor, as to exchanging some of the land belonging to Mr Edward Lee, it was resolved—“ That a survey be made of the land to be exchanged." It was further agreed that a special meeting be held on June 12th, at 7 p.m., to consider the survey and how the roads in question, namely, Jackson’s road and Ticehurst road, shall be diverted. The Council agreed to give their patronage to a concert to be given on tho 13th inst. by the Druids on behalf of Mrs Payne. Accounts to the amount of £203 17s 8i were passed for payment. The engineer’s report from tho pumping station was read, also the foreman of works’ report. In the last a complaint was made against persons letting the taps in private premises run constantly, the water going to waste. The foreman was instructed to sue said parties. Notice of motion was given for next meeting, asking what amounts bad been expended upon the various streets of the town, taking them separately. Attention was drawn to the dangerous state of the the road“oppoaito Or. Stinson's store on the Dampier’a Bay road, and the works committee was empowered to deal with the matter. Or. Chalmers moved his motion with respect to having the bridle path surveyed again. The motion was a conditional one, the condition being that all parties interested as far as section 40 sign a document asking the Council to do so. Or. Weyburne seconded it. Or. Webb thought the whole of the parties interested would sign for the survey, though he was in favor of having the survey held and the difficulty faced. He would not vote for or against the motion. Ors. Stinson and Garforth having an interest in the property on the road in question, retired, and tho motion was put, Or. Grubb only voting against it. After some further business the Council adjourned.
