Consols are unchanged, at New Zealand securities continue at tho following quotations:—Five Per Cent. 10-40 Loan, 106 i; Five Per Cent. 1889 Loan, 105 ; Four and a Half Per Cent, 18791904 Loan, 103 j, Colonial braadstnffs continue dull at 52s for Adelaide whsat, and 51s for New Zealand, ex store. Adelaide flour remains at 35s gx store. IThe total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 2,300,000 quarters. Australian best mutton tallow has advanced sixpence to 445; best beef remains at 42s 6d; best Sydney copra has declined ten shillings to £ls per ton; galvanised iron, 26-guage, remains at £l7 10s. At tho wool sale to-day, the lots catalogued comprised 10,200 bales. Prices are firmly maintained. Coarse merino wool is now a halfpenny to one penny lower (sic.) than the closing prices of last auctions. The wool market will be closed until Wednesday next, the 31st May, for the Whitsun holidays. The ship Dunedin, from Port Chalmers, with a cargo of frozen meat, has arrived at London.

The cricket match, Australians v Surrey, at Kennington Oval, was resumed to-day. The weather was very fine, and there was a very large attendance. The wicket was rather bumpy. The Australians continued their first innings, and were all disposed of for 100 runs. The following were the highest scorers— Murdoch, bowled, 28; Horan, caught, 20. The fielding of the Englishmen was excellent. The Surrey eleven then went in for their second innings, and were all disposed of for 46 runs. Garrett and Boyle bowled splendidly, the former taking six wickets for three runs, and Boyle four wickets for 16 runs. At the close’of the day’s’play the Australians had lost two wickets for 98 runs. Cannerman scored 28, and was bowled.

At the cricket match to-day at the Kennington Oval the Australians resumed their second innings, and succeeded in putting together the required number of runs—ll9—for the loss of only four wickets, thus winning the match by six wickets. McDonnel was bowled for 35, and Horan for 33.

In the House of Commons to-day the Right Hon. W. B. Gladstone stated that the Government declined to pledge England not to use force to bring about a settlement of the crisis in Egypt, and added that the entente cordialc between France and England was as close now as it was at the time of the Crimean war.

The cargo of frozen mutton on board the ship Dunedin, from Port Chalmers, arrived in splendid condition. It was placed in the market to-day, and realised an average price of 6d per lb. CAIRO, May 26.

The Egyptian Ministers have definitely refused to accept the ultimatum delivered by the French and English ConsulsGeneral, and have referred the Govern-

ments of England and Franca to the Sultan of Turkey for a reply. The Khedive has intimated to the French and English Consuls his acceptance of their ultimatum, and his Ministers have consequently resigned their portfolios.
