FOOTBALL.

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION T CHRIST’S COLLEGE.

On Saturday afternoon a match was fought at the College between these clubs, F. Loughnan officering the Association and H, Williams the College team. The ground was in splendid order. Longhnan kicked off, and the ball was soon rushed down towards the enemy’s ground, a goal resulting. In about half an hour the Association secured a second goal. At half time J. Palmer kicked off for the Collegiates, who now turned the tables by excellent play, yet failed to effect more than keeping the ball on the Association’s portion of the field. The College boys played well throughout, lasting better than did their opponents. The result, however, was not affected by the concluding play, the match ending in a win for the Association by two goals to nil. For the victors, pood play was shown by the captain, Wynn-Williams, Josephs, Mellisb, H. Hassal, and De Castro ; while T. Maude, Williams, Palmer, and Rhodes did good service for the College. EAST CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. The match on Saturday was a practice one, and being a good day for football a good muster was the result. The game arranged for was north v south of Armagh street, though most of the players on the respective sides did not seem to heed the colors they were requested to wear. The Golds and Blacks wore drafted over on one side, numbering twelve ; and Blue and White on the other, thirteen; the former being captained by F. Kesteven, the latter by B. Blanchard. The ball being kicked off at 3 15 p.m., it was evident at once the Gold and Black had things a little to their advantage, although the Blues were not to be despised. The first spell no score. The second, Ross and Muter obtained a try each. The third, Fisher, who nlayed splendidly, ran in and obtained No. 3. I:, the last spell, Kesteven secured the fourth try, no goal being obtained, and the match ended in favor of the Golds by four trys to nil. For the winners, as forwards, Atack, Boss, Muter and Woledge, and, as backs, Fisher, Kesteven and Mclvor played, and the forward play for the Blues by Sconllar, Brings, Wilson and J. Fuller was a marked improvement, while behind the scrimmage Bbond, Winter and Blanchard were conspicuous. Next Saturday, the 8.0.F.0. play the College. NORTH CANTERBURY CLUB. After practice on Saturday last, a meeting of the committee of management woe held, Mr O. D. Greenwood presiding, at which it was resolved to hold a general practice next Saturday, in view of approaching matches and afterwards to discuss the question of changing the colors of the club.
