It is stated that a party of Kingites have started making a road into Tnhua (Upper Wanganui), and intend carrying it through the King country to Alexandra. The annual report of the Inspector of Sohools shows the number on the roll in the provincial district to be 15,830, or an average attendance of 12,275.
NAPIKB, May 27. A case of awfully sudden death occurred this morning. Mrs Fuzard, wife of the proprietor of the Masonic Hotel, retired last night, apparently in good health. On the house being dosed, Fuzard went to bed.his wite being asleep. This morning, on waking, Mr Fuzard found his wife dead by his side, death having oocurred some hours previously. The Criterion Hotel is being raised. Over 100 screwjaoks are employed. The Bev. J. Hill has been presented with a handsome silver service, by friends, at Wairoa. DUNEDIN, May 27.
Mr Jaggers, of Inveroargill, is the successful tenderer for the Dunedin goods sheds. The amount bos not transpired, Mr Anning, chemist, died very suddenly yesterday. The Chamber of Commerce recommend an alteration in the constitution of the Harbor Board as follows:—Five members, with paid chairman ; one appointed by Government, two by the Chamber of Commeroe, one by Port Chalmers, and one by the Shipping Company.
