The police, from enquiries made, have reason to suspect foul play or murder in connection with the disappearance of the man Neill in the bush at Dargaville. an incendiary fire at Thomas Ryan’s farm, Hamilton, four wheat stacks, 800 yards apart, were burnt. The damage is £6OO. They were insured in the National for £337.

A bushman named Charles Hay was found at Waikouimiti in a hut by a settler named Charles Oantivelle. He had lain since Saturday, wounded, without food. He was half unconscious, and said a tree had fallen on him. There were burns on his neck, for which he could not account.

A special session of Grand Lodge, 1.0.Q.T., under R.W.G. Lodge of World, took place in the Choral Hall. Bro, Jenkins, G.W.0.T., presided. Amongst those present were members of the executive and Bros. It was then determined to establish a Good Templar journal in Auckland. Contributions towards that object having been received, the meeting adjourned. At the sale of leasehold endowment by order of the City Council there was great competition, and advanced prices were obtained.

A committee of the Chamber of Commerce to-day considered the propotal recently made by Mr McNeil for the amendment of the constitution of the Harbor Board, and agreed to recommend that the number of members bo reduced from ten to five, with a paid chairman, one to be appointed by Government, two by the Chamber of Commerce, one representing Port Chalmers, and one the shipping interest. If this be given effect to, the committee will support a further loan, tor a sum to bo agreed uoon. The particulars received by the traffic superintendent here of the accident last night at Studholmo Junction state that the two men on the trolly wore only slightly hurt. INVERCARGILL, May 25, The Now Zealand and Australian Land Company have sold a block of their Edendale Estate to MriW. J. Moffet, of Invercargill. It comprises 1300 acres of highly improved land, and is known as the Lower Home Station. The price has not been disclosed, but is said to be a pretty high one. The Laud Board has decided that in future the royalty to bo paid by taw-millers on totara and black pine, hitherto threepence per hundred superficial feet, shall in future be sixpence.

Mr 8. H. Moreton, a well known local artist, has opened an exhibition of his own pictures here. The greater number of the works represent the maj stio scenery of Milford Sound, where Mr Moroton spent some considerable time during the past summer for the purposes of his art.
