Michael Davitt, who was recently released on a tickot-of-leavo, addressed a meeting o£ agents of the Land League at Chester to-day, and in the course of his speech strongly advocated complete abolition of landlords in Ireland, and urged active steps towards that end. Consols are unchanged at 102-1, and New Zealand securities at last quotations. The market rate of discount has declined to 2£ per cent. The markets for colonial broadstuffs and tallow are without quotable change. At the wool sale to-day 10,100 bales wore offered, and a good demand was experienced. The Australian cricketers commenced a match to-day against the Eleven of the Orleans Club at Twickenham. The weather was fine, but very hot. A capital wicket was pitched, and the ground was in good order. There was a very large attendance of spectators, by whom the greatest possible interest was taken in the match. The Orleans Club went in first, and succeeded in putting together for their first innings a total of 271, when stumps were drawn for the day. Sir Henry Parkes ia about to pay a visit to Belgium. The Orient Steamship John Elder arrived at Plymouth on the 19th iust., from Australia.

No formal demands have yet been made by the foreign consuls of the Egyptian Government in view of the present crisis, but informal parleying has taken place with a view to induce Arabi Pasha and the Egyptian generals who are supporting him to leave Egypt. CONSTANTINOPLE, May 22, In the course of communications which passed between the Turkish Government and Ambassadors of the Powers, the Grand Yizier has taken occasion to reiterate the demand of the Porte, that English and French ironclads should be recalled from Alexandria, adding that by such a step alone can order be restored in Egypt. BERNE, May 22, The railway through the St. Gothard tunnel was opened to-day with considerable ceremony.
