Pakara and Bpohia were brought up at the police court on a charge of shooting at Daldy McWilliams with intent to kill They were remanded till the Slit to get the necessary witnesses. This afternoon they were taken to Mount Kden Gaol handcuffed to each other by way of precaution, A boat is missing at Coromandel containing Thomas Warnes and son and Daniel Ballantiue. The boat is considered unseaworthy. A youth named Longbottom was thrown from his horse, and his skull was fractured. The ratepayers of City North by a large majority decided against the increase of publicans’ aad New Zealand wine licenses. DUNEDIN, May 22. The sale of Handyside and Roberts’ Lander station is reported at a satisfactory price to Messrs Ross and,’ Gleudinning. The sale includes 24,000 sheep and 7000 lambs. At the crossing between town and Port Chalmers the northern express this morning ran into a cart belonging to a Chinaman. John had left his cart on the crossing whilst be went to shut the railway gate, and in the meantime the train came along. The horse was killed, and the cart knocked into pieces, but the engine was only slightly damaged, and the train was delayed only for ton minutes.
INVERCARGILL, May 22, Alfred Harper was to-day committed for trial for stabbing a man named Steinman. Harper was an A.B. on board the barque Kingdom of Sweden at the Bluff, Steinman was a Bluff resident. Smoke has been observed on ridges near Easy Harbour, on the West Coast of Stewart's Island, and it is thought some of the crew of the missing ship Min y-don may be castaway there.
