COMMERCIAL.
The Customs duties collected at Christchurch cm Friday, May 19th, were as follows: —Spirits. .£378 19s 7d ; tobacco, .£l6 18s 6d; cigars, .£sl lls 8d; wine, £l9 10s 2d; beer, £56 7a 6d; sugar, £lll 6a 8d ; tea, £lß3a 0d; goods by weight. £6l 4s 7d ; ad valorem, £B4 Us Total, £743 13a 2d. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. During the past week business has been quiet and uneventful. Wheat of good milling quality passes off at up to 4a 6d at inland railway stations, and seed Tuscan at 3d to 3d per bushel more. Fowls’ wheat is in demand at up to 3s 6d, but there is not much offering. In flour there is no alteration, a fair trade business being done at £ll 10a f.o b. Oats continue somewhat weak, buyers refusing to operate ot over 3s in town, which figure holders so far decline to entertain. Beans are coming into competition with oats for feeding, and at present prices (4s to 4s 23) are rela lively the cheapest. No alteration can be noted in barley, good malting finding ready buyers at 4a 6d. and lower grades from 3s upwards, according to quality and condition. Potatoes continue to be offered freely, and_ a large business has been done at 33s daring the week Batter is in fair request at lOd to lid, and cheese has slightly improved in value, business having been done at 4Jd to sd.
