RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual meeting was held on Friday evening last. Present —His Worship the Mayor, and Ors. Boyd, Good, Burt, Ivory, Ellis, Orothors, Gulliver, Stephens, and White. Minutes of former meeting having been read and confirmed, correspondence was received from representatives of U. M. Free Ohurch, asking for a lamp to be placed by their church. It was finally resolved, after some discussion, that the Council oould not make a precedent by granting same, but as tho lighting of the Borough Council became more extended, so should snob applications be considered. From O. Boynton, resigning post of ranger. From treasurer, with fines, <fcc., collected for February last, £1 ss. From G. Cone re slaughter house licence. On the proposal of Or. Burt, a temporary license was granted. A petition was received from owners of property abutting on High street, &c., asking tho Council to form concrete kerbing and asphalte footpath from Rod Lion Hotel to Perceval street and part of Victoria street. On tho proposition of Or. Ellis, it was decided that the work be done. The clerk was instructed to draw out specifications for work in connection with the pan closet system, as recommended by the committee, and that tenders be called. The surveyor’s report ot works in hand was read and approved. It was resolved to hold the present owner of land on Drain road (late Newton’s) responsible for arrears ot rates. Or. Ellis proposed, and Or. Stephens seconded and carried —“ That the rato proposed at the former meeting of the Council bo confirmed.” The receipts for the month amounted to £3l la Cd. Balance at Bank, £226 13s 7d. Accounts amounting to £164 11s 3d wore passed for payment, and the Council adjourned.
