Paul Tuahere also advocated the establishment of the press, and said he had collected £25 towards that object. R>wi followed, and said ho had already given £8 towards it. The meeting concluded with a h iaka, which signified that the proceedings were at an end. The Natives are now leaving for their respective homes. The Ngatiraukawaa intend remaining in the district until the meeting of the Court, which is expected to come off at Cambridge shortly. OPUNAKE, May 18.

Hopes are now entertained of Fowler’s recovery, unfertile skilful treatment of Dr. Alexander. KUMAEA, May 18. In the Warden’s Court yesterday, Mr Seddon, M.H E., pleeded in a cate on behalf of defendants. In addition to a verdict for plaintiffs, the Warden allowed plaintiff expenses. Mr Seddon ejaculated —“ I expected as much.” The Warden held this to be a centompt of Court, and inflicted a fine of £l. Mr Seddon refused to pay the fine, and would have gone to gaol but for some friends, who paid the fine against his will, and he was discharged. DUNEDIN, May 18. James Walls, an aged miner, has been found dead in his hut at Adam’s Flat. A trial crushing of fifty-eight tons from the new reef in Oarriok range gave loz 9dwt to the ton.
