THE AUSTRALIAN - ELEVEN V OXFORD UNIYESSITST. LONDON, May 15. The first match of the Australian cricketers in England was commenced today at Oxford against cloven of the local University. The weather was fine, and there was a lively wicket. The Artstra- , liana went in first and the innings closed for 362. The following ware the highest scorers : Massie .... 206 Giffen - - . 19 Jones - . . - 39 Garrett - - - - 41 Palmer - - . - 18 Murdoch was howled for nil. Massie batted splendidly, but was badly missed early in his innings. The play of the Australians was much admired, and the fielding of University players was excellent. At the close of the day’s play the Oxford Eleven had two wickets down for 5 runs.
