BELFAST ESTATE SALE.

This afternoon Mr B. 8. Harley, auctioneer on behalf of the New Zjaland Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, submitted to public auction, in Messrs J. T. Ford and Co.’s Land Sale-rooms, kindly lent for the purpose, the Belfast estate, comprising 43 farms, ranging from 2 acres to 19 acres each, and 120 allotments of a quarteracre and upwards. Two maps were furnished, one of Belfast town, the other of Belfast farm, six miles from Christchurch, with frontages to the Great North road and the northern line of railway, embracing 318 acres 2 roods, out up into blocks for residential sites, gardens, and dairy farms. The subdivided township sections were numbered 13 to 24, inclusively. Considerable interest was manifested in the sale, nor was that interest lessened by the excellent luncheon provided. About 220 persona wore present, including a few ladies. Up to the time of our going to press the bidding was fairly animated, The terms were 10 per cent, cash deposit on dar of sale ; 10 per cent, cash 17th November, 1882; 10 per cent.* on 17lh May, 1883 ; a title to be then given to purchasers, and a mortgage to be taken for the remaining 70 per cent, for three years (subject to further payment of 10 per cent, on 17th May, 1884). Interest on unpaid balances 6 per cent, per annum, payable half-yearly ; title to be given on any purchasers paying full amount, at (his option, before the expiration of the terms granted in conditions of sale. Immediate possession given. At twenty-five minutes after two o’clock tho auctioneer stated that, at the urgent request of some gentlemen who had that morn ing visited the land, it was proposed, with the concurrence of those already present, to allow a few minutes’ grace pending the arrival of the north train. Prior to reading the oondilions of sale, the auctioneer took occasion to express tho pride he felt in making his dehut as a land auctioneer on the occasion of tho ■ale of so fine an estate. The auctioneer started with the subdivided town sections, urging that the site presented itself as the only available township of the future between Christchurch and Kaiapoi.

The following is a list of prices realised, so far as the sale had progressed up to 3 o’clock —Corner section, 42 on the town plan, Mr Russell, £SO j section 46, Mr John Webster, £SO; section 45, Mr Webster. £3B; section 44, passed at £32 ; corner section 18. Mr J. A. Dempsey, £42; section 14, Mr Thomas Reece, £43 ; section 15, Mr J. T. Ford, £36 ; section 2, Mr Russell, £43 ; section 60, M<- J. W. Hunt, £4O; section 66, Mr J. T. Fold, £37.
