and another named Walter Start were out shooting, when the gun accidentally exploded, entering the left side of hie face, fracturing the upper jaw, and taking away a portion of his ear. Until the doctor reports to-day nothing is known regarding his recovery. Fowler was held in the highest estimation. WELLINGTON, May 15. A slight shook of earthquake was felt early this morning. Mr Oliver has rejoined the Government, and was sworn in before the Governor, at Christchurch, on Friday. Information has just been received that two Natives were stabbed by another Native at Waitotara last evening. No particulars are to hand as yet. The Hinemoa leaves for Lyttelton this afternoon for the purpose of bringing the Governor to Wellington. In the Divorce Court to-day a decree absolute was granted without opposition in the following cases:—Olaridge v Olandge, Dunedin; White v White, Wellington ; Milliohamp v Millichamp, Wellington ; Goldstein v Goldstein, Dunedin; Hornby v Hornby, Dunedin. Decrees nisi were granted in the cases of Winton v Winton, and Vanss v Yanse, both of Dunedin. The case of Marshall v Marshall was adjourned to Dunedin, in order to compel the attendance of a gin on whom it was alleged respondent had committed a rape. The Court then adjourned. PATEA, May 15.
Ai a meeting of farmers and commercial men on Saturday it was resolved to form a Linseed Company, to bs called the “ Patea Oil and Fibre Manufacturing Company (Limited).” with a capital of £3OOO, in 600 shares. Two hundred and fifty shares have been taken up. BLENHEIM, May 15. Two slight shocks of earthquake were felt between 12 and 12 30 this morning, and another heavier one at ten minutes to four.
A fire occurred last night, destroying tho wool shed of Mr J. Bayner, Southaide, including a wool threshing and wool-drying machine, which were perfectly new, and
stored in the shed. The insurances on the building are £l5O, and £2OO on the average of wool, in the Boyal. A policy of £250 in the same office on the wool-drying machine lapsed last Thursday, Mr Bayner is a heavy loser. The origin is unknown. DUNEDIN, May 15. Guthrie and Larnach’s balance-sheet shows losses for the year of £24,949, due entirely to two sources, the burning down of the Pararaka mills and the winding up of two large branches. The correct insurances of the Duke of Sutherland are :—Adelaide Company, South British, Union, Standard, United Cornwall, South Australian, and Union of Canton, £IOOO each ; Colonial, £ISOO ; Commercial, £SOO ; and the Universal, £3OOO.
