Mclbonrne International Exhibition, 11th April, 1881. To J. Ooamo Newbery, Esq., Superintendent of Juries and Awards. Sir, —According to your instructions we have made a practical test and thorough examination of the following Sewing Machines, viz., the Wheeler and Wilson, Jones and Oo , Wertheitn, and the Davis, and the results of our experiments are set forth in the tabulated statement attached. We find that the Wertheim and Jonrs a!' of the Singer type and similar In construction, and should bo classed in the same order. The Wheeler and Wilaon differs In construction, but the results of our experiments are similar to the former named. Ab regards the DAVIS, we cannot but agree with the jury that it is very feuperlor to any of tho others, and went through every test to our entire satisfaction. Wo therefore beg to recommend th&t the Machines be placed in the following order : FAMILY MACHINES. Ist, The Davis ; 3rd, Wheeler and Wikon, Jtnes and Co., Wertheim. HAND MACHINES.
