CHNSCRATION OF ST.MARK'S

Tho ceremony of consecrating the above church, recently erected upon a plot; or land nearly an acre in extent, given by H. P. Hill, Esq., Seo'gmere, Lakeside, wag performed on Thursday morning last by the Most Bev. the Primate, assisted by Ves. Archdeacon Harris. Despite tho heavy rain which fell in showers during the fort neon, the churoh was crowded to overflowing, all the inhabitants of the surrounding neighborhood making the occasion a ganeral holiday. The church was very tastefully decorated. At the vestry door the Bishop was met ty the curate of the district, Bev. A. W. Hands, who read the petition praying his Lordship to perform the act of consecration. A prooession was then formed, headed by the Bishop and clergy, and in which a lar?e part of the congregation took part, und tho 40th Psalm was recited while the precession moved around the ground to be set apart for burial purposes. Before re-entering the church H;s Lordship offered the prayers of consecration of the ground, and then tho B:£bop and clergy re-formed a procession up the aisle ct the church, reciting Psalm 2i. " -ha d;:d c£ consecration having been reud by the Bishop, His Lordship offered up very earnestly the prayer of dedication, at the ciuse of •shieh. he promised that the deed should be safely deposited among the archives of the d;cc-;e. Tho service of n.o;ning prayer then followed, preceded by Hymn 215 A.and M. Prayers wcro read by Rev. A. W. Hands, the proper hnar.a for the day being 1 Chron. xxix., 10—17 and Heb. x. 13—25, and the proper psalms 84, 122 and 132. The local choir was largely augmented by several visiting kdies, and tho American organ was ably presided over by Mr Akers, of Ohristchurch. His Lordship preached an eloquent and impressive sermon from Psalm xxvi. S, and afterwards, agisted by Ven. Archdeacon Harris, administered the Holy Communion to a large number of the congregation.
