THE KINGITE MEETING.

JPJIB PBBBB ASSOCIATION.} ALEXANDRA, Metf U. Whatiwhatihoo today preßented al) the characteristic features of a Maori settlet ment on great pala days. From their seorerecessea the visitors produced many colored articles of European attire, with which to deck themselves. Their costumes moving between tho tents, whares, and numerous camp fires proved a picture not easily forgotten. Heavy showers at intervals put a serious damper on the pTooeedings. There were not above a dozen Europeans pir*sent. The songs of welcome were rendered with great vigor, and tho mats presented to Tawhaio after were rare and valuable. Three cooked pigs and many kits of cooked potatoes were presented and given on mats before they dispersed for their midday meal. Tawhaio talks of making a trip to Sydney after the meeting is over, taking about a dozen followers with him and an interpreter. Archdeacon Maunsell, after proceedings were over, was busy distributing tracts, and received but soant thanks from many for so doing, and many jeers from others. The missionaries are evidently no favorites here. It is rumored that Tawhaio will repeat his old cry, " Give me back Waikato "j but if this is done it will only be to pacify the malcontents, of whom there are not a few of various kinds.

The speeohes to-day were purely complimentary and unimportant. Mr Bush represented Government, and was presented by Tawhaio with a large valuable mat.
