The newly appointed master of the brigsntmo Circe, Captain Giles, fell off the gangway yesterday afternoon between the vessel and the wharf, and ran a close chance of drowning. Some of the crew jumped ia to save him, a complication of matters which only embarrassed the onlookers. After some fifteen minutes the master and his would-be deliverers wore fished out a great deal exhausted. PORT OF KAIAPOI, The schooner Jessie now lies broadside ou to the sea on the Waimak >riri beach, but not in euoha bad position but that she may ultimately be got off. The spars and fittings have bsen taken on shore, and the vessel wll be offered by auction to day by Messrs. H Matson and Co , on account of whom it may concern. The frame of the Jessie is reported to be very pood, and if she can be floated or lifted into position to re ceive repairs to the bottom planking the vessel, it is expected, will in all respects prove a bargain. No doubt there will be a fair amount of skill and power required to ease the vessel out of her preseat position. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Auckund, May 8. Sailed —Eliza Mary, for Sydney. Dunedin, May 8.
