Consols have advanced to 1013. New Zealand securities remain at the following quotations;—Five per Cent. 10 40 Loan, 106 i; Five per Cent. 1880 Loan, 103 ex div; Fonr-and-Half por Cent., 1879-1904 Loan 103 j. Adelaide wheat, ex store, 535; Now Zealand wheat, ox store, 52 ; Adelaide flour, ex store, 375. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 2,480,000 quarters, being an increase of 140,000 on last week’s return, Australian tallow—best beef is quoted at 425, being an advance of Is; and best mutton, 43s Gd, an advance of 1s 6d. Hides are v«ry flat, and prices are declining. The Australian and New Zealand mails via San Francisco, which left Auckland on the 28th March, were delivered in London yesterday. It has transpired that an exchange of communication between the Powers, which has been proceeding for some time past on the subject of tho Egyptian question, has resulted in an agreement being arrived at to substitne Prince Halim in place of Tewfik Pasha on the Egyptian throne, and if it should become necessary to abandon tho principle of tho Turkish occupation of Egypt, to leave tho initiative in Egyptian affairs to Franco. AUCKLAND, May 8. The formal opening of the Kaipara Canning Company’s works eventuated on Saturday. The company propose canning fish, especiall mullet, and have a plant capable of turning out 3000 11b tins per day. NEW PLYMOUTH, May 8.
In the Supreme Court this morning, after the Judge had taken his seat, the Crown Prosecutor intimated that he intmded to ask permission to enter a nolle 2>roscqui in the case of Titokowaru and Rangi, charged under the West Coast Settlement Act. The Judge said ha would look into the application, and let him know during tho day. Edward Jackman was being charged with stealing a horse from a Native at Korupokonui. The case is still proceeding.
