It is announced that Lord Fredk. Cavendish, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, has been appointed Chief Secretary for Ireland, vice W. E. Forster, resigned. Michael Davitt, who has been in enstody in Portland prison for some time past, has now been released. Parnell and the other Irish members who have recently been released have arrived in London, and have commenced their Parliamentary duties.
Consols have declined to 101£. Now Zealand securities are unchanged at yesterday’s quotations. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England ia £12,500,000, being £1,000,000 less than last week. The markets for'colonial breadstnffa and tallow are without quotable change. In the House of Commons to-day an excited debate took place regarding the Irish policy of the Government. The Irish members who have been under arrest warmly repudiated the charges which wore made against them, that they had entered into a compact with the Executive in order to secure their release. Mr. Forster, the late Irish Secretary, assailed the action of the Government in strong terms. Mr. Parnell, in the course of a speech which he made, explained that he was willing to assist the Executive to restore order, provided the arrears of tenants’ rents wore remitted.
