Chabgb of Stealing a Cash Box.— George Barker, alias Brennan, was brought up on remand from April 29fch charged with stealing a cash box, containing valuable securities, from the premises of Buddlo and Partridge on April 20th. Tho police stated that they had been unable to find the witness, Sutherland, who had given information of the prisoner’s partin the theft. His Worship said in that case there was an end to it. The Bench would not commit on the pvidenoo already given. The prisoner was accordingly discharged. Larceny of Leather.—Georgs Wadsworth, arrested at Orari, was charged with stealing a side of leather, valued at £1 Bs. It appeared that a Mr Midgeloy bought from Messrs Holland and Wethey a side of leather on April 26th, and wrote his name in pencil on the inside ot the skin. By a mistake of an errand boy, tho leather was left at the shop of prisoner, who is a bootmaker, residing near Midgeley’s place of residence, in Tuam street. Prisoner was absent at the time. On the following day he offered the leather for sale to Mr Ballard, a bootmaker, in Colombo street north, who purchased it for 18s, Prisoner said he wanted to raise some money, and that ho had brought tha leather from the shop of Mr Clark, another bootmaker. The prisoner was remanded till May Bth for tho production by tho prosecution of Clark.
