FOOTBALL.

BAST CHRISTCHURCH r HAVENS. A football match waa played on Saturday between the Eaat Christchurch and Ravens' Football Clubs, on the ground of the latter, and the result wag a victory for the Ravens by a try. During the first spell the game was very loose, and the Eaat Christchurch obtained a force down shortly after the first kick efi ; Iho Ravens then began to improve in their play, and Parker, by a smart run, scored a touch-down, which Farr failed to convert into a goal. In the second and third spells neither side gained any special advantage, but in the last spell the game grew much faster, the Havens having the ball very close to their opponent’s goal line, whan time was called at the end of an unusually warm scrimmage. Throughout the game much unpleasantness was caused by several of the players being non-conversant with the laws of football. For the East Christchurch Club, Kssteven, De Castro, and Henry played well, and Parr, Parker, Hyman, Spragge, and Shaekleton played a splendid game for the Ravens, The new Canterbury Association Football Club played their first game on the College ground. There was a very good attendance of members, and a good even game resulted from the sides picked by Messrs Loughnan end Ha-oilton. One goal each waa placed to the credit of the respective sides, and the play was fair far a first attempt at rales new to most of the men. As a matter of course handling w n not unknown, and proper passing was evidently little understood, but some good back play and dribbling was shown on both sides. The match played by the Christchurch Football Club on Saturday was Heavy v Light. At 2 45 there was an exceedingly good muster, over thirty rolling up. Play was commenced by Millton kicking eff for Heavy. The game was very evenly contested, the Light having a slight advantage, they playing a fast game by th ir good following up. Besiker and Helrnoro gained a touch down for them. In the last spoil the Heavies pulled themselves together by a good rush, carried the ball into tiro b-ÜBs' twenty five yards, Anderson getting it, and being backed up by Knight gained a touch down, Million, taking this try, secured a goal for the Heavies.
