BANKRUPTCY LAW.
f PRESS ASSOCIATION TEIEOEAM. I DUNEDIN, April 27. A conferanoe was held to-day between a oommitteo of the Chamber of Commerce and IXr W. Downie Stewart, who was chairman of the bankruptcy committee last session in Parliament. Tho pre»ent unsatisfactory state of the law was fully discussed, and Mr Stewart thought the legislation might well be postponed until the Eogliah Bill now before Parliament came to hand. Eventually the following resolutions were carried :—" That in view of the urgent necessity of an amendment in the bankruptcy law, the secretary write to thn Colonial Seoretary, asking him if any legislation on the subjeot is intended this session, and for an early copy of any Bill that it may be proposed to introduce into Parliament " j 2. " That if no legislation is intended on the whole question of bankruptcy, the law regarding bill* of tale should at least be amended, as they operate most tinfairly towards unsecured creditors."
