(Thompson) 0 Betting—2 to 1 Luna and Envy, 4 to X Sir Modred, 5 to 1 Tasman, 10 to 1 nny other. After some delay, during which there were several breaks away, a splendid start was effected. Envy Filly was the first to show prominently. Tasman and Hinemoa, of the others, were most conspicuous. Passing the eland, the filly still retained her position, with Tasman, Hinemoa, Libeller and Chancellor all close up, while Emir Bey acted as whipper-in. No change occurred at the band and round the back stretch, but passing the stand Tasman ran uu and collared the filly. The two then raced neck and neck, Hinemoa was about the same time giving place to Libeller. At the far end Emir Bey slightly improved his position. At the homo turn Envy Filly and Tasman still maintained the lead, Libeller Iving about two lengths off third, while Sir Modred and Luna were close handy. The race up the straight now commenced in earnest, the filly, Libeller, Sir Modred, and Tasman all appearing to be in it. On reaching the rails
Libeller came away and won cleverly by a length and a half from Tasman ; SirModred, another half length away, third ; Envy filly, fourth; while Emir Bey and Luna finished close together and came next. Time, 2min 42Jsec. On the totalisator there were 155 shares at £2, five being on the winner. Handicap Hurdle Rack, of 80 sovs; about two and a half miles. Mr M. Sherwin’s Mokarakara, lOst 21b (Cotton) 1 Mr J. Pilbrow’s b g Clarence, aged, 12st lib > (H. Lunn) 2 Mr J. Dooley’s b g Milo, aged, Oat 101 b (Hobbs) 3 Mr P. St. James’ b h Quamby. 5 yrs, list (Cullen) 0 Mr L. Clayfield’s b g Albion, Bst 71b ... 0 Mr D. O’Brien’s b g Trovatoro, 4 yrs (Clifford) 0 Clarence and Trovatore were the favorites in what little betting there was doing. A good start was ejected, Quamby and tore cut out the running and cleared the first obataole well together, Albion lying about ton lengths off last. Mokarakara then ran up into the leading position, followed by Clarence and Trovatoro. Little change occurred until reaching the fifth hurdle, when Trovatore came to grief and threw hie rider, who, however, was quickly mounted again, but had lost too much time to have any further show, and O’Brien’s horse was consequently pulled off. Albion now was also completely out of it, Mokarakara passed the stand still leading, and Quamby, Clarence, and Milo in the order named in close attendance. The above order was retained over the next two jumps, but Quamby then fell back. Makarakara still led round the home turn, and soon the whip was seen going on Quamby and Milo, bat without avail. Maka coming away at the rails won easily by three lengths from Clarence, a similar distance separating tho second and third, Quamby was fourth. On the totalisator there were sixty-two investors, of whom eight wore on the winner. Selling Back Race of 20 sovs; one, and a-half miles. Mr Mundtcll’s Black Doctor won easily from four others. Wintjb Oats Handicap of 80 sovs, for twoyear olds; six furlongs, Mr H. P. Lance’s b c Vanguard, by Traducor, Oat (Derritt) 1 Mr Butler’s Te Ata, 7st (Butler) 2 Mr Moßratey’s ch o Whitlo, Sat 51b ... 3 Vanguard, who was a hot favorite, led off from the jump, and was never headed, and won hands down by a length from To Ata. Whi lo was nowhere. Time, Imin. lOsecs. Consolation Race of 30 sovs. Luna, Sat Hb (Butler) 1 Poet, 6at 10 : b (Blanche) 2 Chsncellor, Sat 41b ... ... (Hoskins) 3 Coldstream, 6at 71b (Chapman) 0 Luna won easily by over a length.
