Melbourne International Exhibition, 11th April, 1881. To J. Cosmo Newbery, Esq., Superintendent of Juries and Awards. Sir, —According to your instructions we have ma ie a practical test and thorough examination of the following Sewing Machinea, viz , the Wheeler and Wilson, Jones and Co., Wertheim, and the Davis, and the reiinlts of our experiments are set forth in the tabulated statement attached. We find that the Werthehn and Jones all of the Singer type and similar In construction, and should be classed in the same order. The Wheslcr and Wilson differs in construction, hut the results of our experiments are similar to the former named. As regards the DAVIS, we cannot but agree with the jury that it is very buperior to any of the others, and went through every test to our entire satisfaction. We therefore beg to recommend that the Maohines be placed in the following order : FAMILY MACHINES. Ist, The Davis ; 3rd, Wheeler and Wilson, Jcnes and Co., Wertheim. HAND MACHINES.
