A robbery of postal packages, containing valuables and securities estimated to be worth a millionn francs, was committed from the Central Post Office in this city. No clue to the perpetrators of the theft has yet been obtained. WASHINGTON, April 18. Chinese Exclusion Bill. The new measure recently introduced in the House of Representatives, providing for the total exclusion of the Chinese from the United States for a period of ton years, was finally agreed to by the House last evening. The Alabama Claims. A Bill has been introduced in the Senate to authorise the Government to repay to Great Britain the unexpended balance of the Geneva award in connection with the Alabama claims.

The Insurance Frauds-
In connection with the insurance frauds, Hicks, who turned Queen’s evidence, has been acquitted. Forsyth, another of the defendants, has absconded, and his sureties have consequently been estreated.

NAPIER, 19. DeathsMr W. O. M'Cormick, agent for the Union Steamship Company, who was attacked with fever through getting wet when loading a steamer on S.ilurday, died hero to-day. Mr J. A. Danes, traveller to J. Nathan and 00., also died here to-day. Both gentlemen were highly respected, and their deaths will ho deeply deplored. MARION, April 19. Alleged Bigamy. J. P. Phillips, late schoolmaster at South Makiririii, was charged at the Merton R.M. Court to-day with bigamy. He had seduced one of bis pupils, a girl of fifteen, and married her, his first wife being still alive at Auckland. The prisoner was remanded for a weak. DUNEDIN, April 19.
