COURSING NOTES.
By L'bvbibb,
I remind all interested that the entries for the Derby and Oaks of the Canterbury Coursing Club will olose at eight o'clock this evening at the Shades. The entries must be accompanied with one guinea each, without which no entry or nomination will be valid. The entries and acceptances for the first fixture of the Papanui Club, whioh consists of All-Aged Stakes and Puppy Stakes, will close at half-past eight o'olock this evening at the Sawyers' Arms Hotel, Papanui. The entry money for each of these events is two guineas and one and a half guineas respectively. The meeting will commence on the following morning in the vicinity of Kaiapoi, and, judging from all I hear, both stakes are likely to fill well, especially the latter. This meeting of the Papanui Club will be the first of the season, as the meetings that have already taken place at STaldhurst and Bolleston were only friendly gatherings, the latter of whioh was by speoial invitation only, and they cannot therefore be looked upon as of any significance as affecting the ohanoes of the dogs in the usual events of the various olubs, aa it was notorious that all the performers were in anything but trained condition. The first meeting of the Sheffield Coursing Club is fixed for Tuesday, April 25th, when two events will he contested, viz , a Trial Stake, for whioh eleven all-aged dogs, are entered, and also a Derby, for which twelve puppies of both sexes are entered. Mr J. Tumor will act as judge, and Mr J. Spooner as slipper. In the interest of the leash the hope may be expressed that the advent of this olnb will act as a check to poaching, whioh is stated to be very rife in the distriot. Nominations for the North Otago Club's first meeting will also close at Oamaru this evening. The events are an All-aged Stake and a Derby Stake. The fixture will [be run off on May 2nd.
