The following are the averages of the first eleven of the Midland Club for season 1881-82, taken from the All England, Oiago, and Association Olub matohes :

FIKST ELEVEN BATTING AVERAGES.

"PRESS" v OPERA. A matoh was played on Saturday last on the Association ground, between a team selected from the Pbesb office and an eleven of the Williamson's Opera Company, whioh resulted, aa will bo seen by the scores appended, in favor of the latter team by 21 rung on the first innings. Owing to the ground being very heavy from the late rains, the scoring was very low all round. Mr Williamson captained the Opera team, Mr Board doing a like service for tho Fbbbb, the toss resulting in the Fbbbb men taking the wickets first. Ploy commenced about a quarter past two, the stumps being drawn at half-past five, and, as the weather was all that could be desired, a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. Mr Williamson's team, considering they have but very little praotice, deserve great credit for the manner in which they acquitted themselves, and indeod several of its members Bhow exoellent oil round cricket. The team may be said to be more successful than any of the previous opera companies, they having now achieved a viotory over good representative elovons from both the morning newspaper offices. The Pbbsb went to the wickets about a quarter to five for their second innings, but as the light was very bad, they only succeeded in obtaining about the average of the first innings. iho following is the score:—

Dohrmann's paddock, at Carleton. between the Oarleton Club and a team from Oxford. The looal club put together in their first innings 42, and in the aeoond innings 23, while their opponents scored in their first innings 28, and in the second innings 64. The Oxford Club played the matoh out. The bowlers for Oarleton were MossrsW. A. Banks and J. F. Dohrmann, and those for the Oxford team Meesrs Keats and Johnston. Great interest was taken in the match by the residents in the district.
