A greater part of the week having been devoted to holidays, business operations have necessarily been limited to a short period) daring which some alight activity has been displayed, but beyond supplying actual requirements the transactions call for little notice. A fair business has been done in bottled ales and stout, which, being not in excessive supply, are quitted at improved rates. Scotch whiskey, iu bulk and bottle, has been active, the approach of tho winter season causing more enquiry tl an formerly. Dunville’a Irish whiskey meets with ready sale at established rates. Geneva has had a little attention, stocks of which are getting low, so improved rates may be expected. Brandy, in bulk, of medium quality, has been freely placed at 8s 6d. Clarets have had small sales of from low to medium kinds. Port wine has had more enquiry for medium sorts. Champagne, of fine quality, has been well placed. Teai continue quiet, and sales are only effected at low rates. A good business has been done in candles, though at low figures, both for De Roubaix’s and Prices’. Sugars have not had much attention, and quotations continue easy for white crystals, a shipment of yellows and browns from Queensland is being offered at high rates. The arrival of the Laurita from Mauritius is noted, the cargo of which will bo put up for sale shortly, and establish quotations for future operations. The low prices asked for kerosene fail to tempt buyers, who are disposed to wait shipments shortly due, which will probably be placed at a reduction on present quotations, on account of the low rate ruling in New York and the large quantity on hand and to arrive. Salmon in small lots find buyers at 8a 3d. Sardines continue high, and Lave only limited business at 9s Gi. _ Dried fruits are a shade lower,‘eleme raisins being now worth 7£d and currants sid. Salt has had more attention; quotations rule from 65a to 80s, according to brand. The demand for cornsacks is now nearly over; quotations are, therefore, easy at 8a 6d for large size. Soda crystals and whiting have been freely quitted at low rates. A fair business has been done in tobacco, chiefly for twist and nailrod, which continue firm at previous quotations.
