LICENSING ELECTION.
The polling under the local option clauses—■ 46. 47, and 48—of Licensing Act for the district of Christchurch North took place yesterday in the City Council Chambers, under the supervision of Mr George Leohe Leo, Beturning Officer. As in most of the other districts in the colony whore the local option clauses have been brought into operation, very little interest was taken in the proceedings, only fifty-five ratepayers recording their votes. It will be soon that in respect to every description of license there was a large majority against any additional facilities being given for the sale of liquor in the district. Only three persons voted in favor of increasing the number ot puttie I licenses, while thirty-seven voted against. The following is a detailed result of the polling aj enpplied to us by the Beturning Officer, who 1 ia not required by the Aol to make any public declaration of the poll, but only t° report the result to the chairman ot the liioonstag Committee:—Publican a* liccraseßAgainst any increase, 47 ; tor 8 5 majority against, 39. New Zealand wine licenses — Against any increase, 42 ; for, 11 5 majority against, 31. Accommodation 'licenses — Against any increase, 37; for -7.
