IS EXCELLENCY regrets that th» Btate I of the weather this morning precludes the possibility of holding the intended parade of the Volunteer Force now in Christchurch, without great inconvenience and discomfort to the Volunteers themselves immediately before leaving for their homes, and he has therefore reluctantly abandoned the intention or inspecting them previously to their departure. His Excellency would have been glad to have been afforded the opportunity of personally expressing to the Force the gratification with which he has observed the creditable appearance made by it yesterday at the opening of the Exhibition, and thi yet greater gratification which the report he has received from the officer commanding the distriot of the good conduct and discipline of the Force has afforded him. Himself an old officer of Volunteers, His Excellency feels a speoial interest in the Volunteer Force of New Zealand, and is able to understand and appreciate the feeling 3 by it ia animated. He regrets that he has not been more frequently brought into closer relations with its officers and men.
