THE EARTHQUAKE.
The shock on Thursday was felt at Kaiapoi where it broke the wall at a coal bank at the station, and also at the bar lifted' the schooner now ashore out of its bed in the sand for a few moments. No damage is zeported to have been sustained. [ panes association telegrams.! WELLINGTON, April 6. Three shocks of earthquake were felt here this afternoon. The first was very slight at 4.10 p.m. This was followed almost immediately with a rather severe one, tho direction being N.W. to B.E. The third shock occurred a few minutes later, but was very slight No damage is reported. HAWBBA, April 6‘ An earthquake shock was felt very severely let fire minutes past four, the direction being N.W. to B.E. Chimneys are down or tottering on all sides. Windows were broken, and some little damage done in stores and in private houses by articles falling from shelves. A second shock followed ten minutes late, but it was much slighter. OPUNAKE, April 6. At 4 p.m. to-day a most severe shock of earthquake was felt here, but, as yet, no damage is reported. BLENHEIM, April 6. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt bore shortly after four this afternoon.
