COURSING.

EOLLE3TOS. Agreeably with an invitation from Mr T. EL Banger, of Eolleston, a number of gentlemen left Christchurch by yesterday morning’s exprees, for the purpose of enjoying a day’s coursing on Mr Ranger’s property. These were augmented by several who preferred the road. The gathering was a representative one, lovers of the leash being present from Christchurch, and also from down south. A puppy stake of ten dogs, and also an all-aged stake along with a like number was arranged, and the draw having taken place, an adjournment was made to the locale of puss. It was arranged that alternate rounds of both stakes should be run. Merivale aud Blue Beard were the first two entrusted to the slipper, and the good working of the slut was rewarded by Blue Board being unmtstakeably beaten. Ricketts and Vendetta followed, and she experienced no trouble in disposing of her opponent. Bon Brown and Proxy came next to slips, and the little slut, although out of condition, worked well and showed a rare turn of foot, very trying course on the plough. Young Eidley then led Te Kooti to the hare, which ho worked well, and won with plenty in hand. Fan and Trioksey followed in a brilliant course, the latter leading to a dodging bare. A series of exchanges took place, in which the close work of Trioksey was favorably commented upon. After a bit, Fan got in by favor, but only for a few seconds, as the littlo blue shot past in grand style, and won a splendid course, with the first kill of the day, Parmesan and Lily then tried conclusions, the dog leading, and turning. After a while tho hare bent somewhat to Lily, but tho fawn was too good to be beaten by the white, and the flag wont up for Parmesan. Olancarty and Sir George was released to an undecided, after which Violet and Brigade were sent on a long quest, the blue slut leading, and scoiirg too freely to allow Brigade a chance of wiping out the same. Brigadier and Olanohrittie were the next two on th e war path, and the latter scored. Wheel of Fortune and Charon then went for a good ’un, in which the former had it all her own way, and won a long course in the gamost possible manner. In the first ties for tho Puppy Stakes Merivale beat Proxy somewhat easily, tho latter’s condition telling against her. Trioksey disposed of Sir Gserge in a long, trying course, doing splendid work. Olanchriotie then ran a bye. In the second ties Trioksey ran a bye, after which Merivale beat Olanohristie in a marry spin, and subsequently the stakes wore divided between the two doge left in. In the first ties for the All Aged Stakes Ricketts and Parmesan met each other, and Mr Porter’s dog had to cry pecoavi. This course was a well tried one, and judging from what he did yesterday—seeing ho is hardly in condition —it is to be hoped that bettor luck is in store for the fawn. Young Ridley then beat Violet in another well tried course, and later on, Wheel of Fortune being drawn, the stakes were considered divided between Mr R. P. Hill’s two dogs, Young Ridley and Ricketts, they being the only two left in the stake.

Mr Walker acted as judge, Mr Oharteris being flag steward ; J, Spooner was elipper and Mr Bassett acted as secretary and treasurer. The hares were very wild, which somewhat protracted the proceedings. Tho events were:—
